“The Bachelor” Gets Their First Black Lead

THE BACHELOR – (ABC/Craig Sjodin) MATT JAMES

ABC has finally casted their first black Bachelor, Matt James. ABC announced that James had been on their radar since February when he was casted on Season 16 of “The Bachelorette.”

“Matt has been on our radar since February, when producers first approached him to join Bachelor Nation, as part of Clare’s season,” said ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke. “When filming couldn’t move forward as planned, we were given the benefit of time to get to know Matt and all agreed he would make a perfect Bachelor.”

The 28-year-old real estate worker is no stranger to the franchise. Outside of being casted in Season 16 of “The Bachelorette” he’s also best friends with former “Bachelorette” contestant Tyler Cameron.

Bachelor fans feel like this has been a long time coming. Earlier this week a petition was created to confront ABC on their lack of diversity when casting a Bachelor/Bachelorette. “ABC and Warner Bros. have been producing Bachelor content for 18 years. During that time they’ve cast 40 season leads, yet only one Black lead. This is unacceptable,” the petition states.

ABC addressed the lack of diversity and said, “We know we have a responsibility to make sure the love stories we’re seeing onscreen are representative of the world we live in, and we are proudly in service to our audience. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise. We feel privileged to have Matt as our first Black Bachelor and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him.”

The video dropped and it was met with heavy criticism for having the well know known culture vulture, Kylie, in it. Cardi B addressed it in response to a tweet that brought up Normani’s performance in the video versus Kylie’s walk.

Cardi B responded, “Why did i put Kylie on my music video? she treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party. Travis and Set are real close and Kris Jenner have giving me advice on certain things I ask for and her husband real cool with mine.”

We were waiting to see the Stallion and Cardi and although we got that, we also got something that none of us wanted or were interested in. Every Black person with a brain and no raccoon DNA was on the same page. Keep the culture vultures like Kylie out of the culture

Someone even started a petition to get her removed off the video altogether.

There’s talk that they had to pause the music so Kylie could walk on beat…
