Netflix Loses motion to dismiss Mo’Nique’s Discrimination Lawsuit

Netflix tried it. Twice. Their lawyers have attempted to get Mo’Nique’s racial and gender discrimination case thrown out yet again and the judge in the case has ordered that it proceed, according to USA Today.

In 2018, Mo’Nique took to social media to call for the boycotting of Netflix. She claimed that she was offered nothing more than $500,000 for an exclusive deal with the media company. It wasn’t long before people began comparing her deal with that of acts like Dave Chappelle and Amy Schumer who were given vastly higher dollar amounts. Soon thereafter, Wanda Sykes made it clear that she, too, had been similarly low-balled, and took her deal elsewhere. That’s four acts I’ve listed, and only the two Black women are the ones who are left wanting.

Nevertheless, Mo’Nique persisted, even after having an ostensibly bad experience on Steve Harvey’s show, which resulted in debate over Steve Harvey’s complacency in the system which was oppressing her, as well as the roles played by Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels, and Tyler Perry. Though nothing has been substantiated, Mo’Nique has become emblematic of the troubles Black women face in Hollywood. This case going forward is one small victory, but it’s a promising one.

We were waiting to see the Stallion and Cardi and although we got that, we also got something that none of us wanted or were interested in. Every Black person with a brain and no raccoon DNA was on the same page. Keep the culture vultures like Kylie out of the culture

Someone even started a petition to get her removed off the video altogether.

There’s talk that they had to pause the music so Kylie could walk on beat…
