YNW Melly Faces Death Penalty for Murder of Two Friends

Melly

In February 2019, Florida rapper YNW Melly was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the 2018 deaths of his two close friends. Now, the State of Florida wants to pursue the death penalty against Melly for his crimes.

As one of the 30 states where capital punishment is legal, Jamell “YNW Melly” Demons could be facing the ultimate sentence. For the murders of Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr., prosecutors who believe they can prove “beyond reasonable doubt” filed a motion April 16th seeking the death penalty. The documents state that Melly committed the “especially heinous” act for financial gain, that it was a premeditated crime, and allege that Melly is a gang member.

Once news of Melly’s arrest was made public Miramar police, who arrested Demons and Cortlen Henry in connection to the murders, revealed the two staged the vehicle. The early hours of October 26th, Melly fired upon his friends and Henry helped him arrange the vehicle to appear as if a drive-by shooting took place. The 19-year-old rapper and his accomplice then dropped the victims off at an emergency room, where they were pronounced dead.

Not On Our Watch! Howard Uni President Bans Campus Colonizers

As a response to student reports of unauthorized use of The Yard, Howard University President, Wayne A.I. Frederick has released a statement demanding pet owners respect the campus.

An email sent to Howard University staff and students notified them of the President’s decision to mark the private institution’s grounds off limits. Calling the quad a “treasured site”, Frederick affirmed the community’s desire to keep the area “pristine and symbolic of all that Howard University represents.” Acknowledging the history of residents’ visitation to the campus, Frederick referenced the community relationship before making a formal decision.

“At the beginning of my presidency we held regular meetings that included students, faculty and members of the Advisory Neighborhood Committees to cultivate a town and gown relationship. I recently reached out to our local ANC and Councilwoman to engage in a dialogue. We recognize that service animals are a necessary aspect of modern-day life and we will accommodate them as needed. We appreciate pet owners respecting out campus by not bringing pets onto the private areas.”

Last week, reports of residents from gentrified surrounding areas mistreating the northwest Washington D.C. school made waves on social media. Insensitive comments regarding who was privileged to access the campus sparked public outrage among those who wanted to protect Howard’s 152-year legacy.

Dressed in a way that could only be described as deliberately modest, Cardi B arrived to court in a white ensemble to reject a plea deal in relation to an August assault.

Regarding a strip club brawl that took place in 2018, the ‘Clout’ rapper received an offer to plead guilty where she would have only received a conditional discharge. However, Cardi seemed dissatisfied and rejected the plea. She has been charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment.

In August 2018, Cardi was allegedly involved in a strip club altercation between two bartenders who were believed to be engaged in an affair with Offset. During the attack, Cardi was said to have thrown chairs and bottles at the victims. Video of the attack shows someone believed to be Cardi picking up an ice bucket and launching it at the girls in rage.

In December, Cardi narrowly avoided jail time by arriving to court just minutes before her hearing. She was threatened with legal action after missing her a court date due to a prior engagement, which was the ‘Twerk’ video shoot. Her decision to reject the offer means the charges levied against her remain and she could face up to one year in jail if convicted.
