Kanye West Says “Don’t Have Premarital Sex”, Scores Invite to Joel Osteen’s Church

During an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1, Kanye West shared he made some unorthodox demands of his album crew. Explaining he wanted everyone to be on the same page, the formerly secular rapper asked staff not to engage in premarital sex during the recording process of ‘Jesus is King’.

It is no exaggeration to say the Kanye West we grew to know is long gone. Now a born-again Christian, West is determined to redeem himself through service to Christ. On the heels of the release of “Jesus is King”, the rapper sat for an interview with Zane Lowe. Discussing his tumultuous past, “revelations”, and journey in Christ, West revealed this is his calling. Saying, “Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the Gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me.”, West has turned over a new leaf.

But while discussing the production process for ‘Jesus is King’, West revealed he made some requests of his staff– to abstain from premarital sex while working on the album. Believing it would bring everyone together spiritually, West said, “It’s known when people pray together, families that pray together stay together.” He continues, “When people pray together and fast together the power is increased.”

The Doors to the Megachurch are Open

Kanye’s new role as a self-proclaimed “Christian innovator” has caught the attention of none other than Joel Osteen. The Lakewood Church pastor who was famously chastised for refusing to open the doors of his megachurch during the extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey has invited Kanye to attend his service. Although sources say he was not asked to perform, Joel and Kanye have allegedly been in close contact for weeks. The Houston megachurch is home to nearly 45,000 parishioners but the service reaches more than 100 million homes through its televised program. That’s quite a way to promote his new album!

Although Kanye is thrilled about his new found faith, it has resulted in tensions emerging at home. A recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians revealed Kanye is not pleased with Kim’s style, despite being the catalyst for her bombshell transformation. During the spat, Kanye said his soul and spirit were bothered by her provocative style of dress, specifically what she wore to the Met Ball. Kim was quick to remind Kanye that he influenced her style and told her husband, “Just because you’re on a journey and you’re in a transformation doesn’t mean I’m in the same spot with you.” The couple appears to have come a long way from Bound 2.

Mo’Nique Sues Netflix for Gender/Race Discrimination

A lawsuit two years in the making has finally hit the streaming titan. Alleging racial and gender discrimination, Oscar winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique has filed a 39-page suit against Netflix.

As the fight for equal pay within the entertainment industry wages on, Mo’Nique has upped the ante by suing Netflix after years of callouts. Claiming the streaming giant attempted to underpay her for a stand-up special in comparison to other comedic heavyweights, Mo’Nique has highlighted gender and racial bias in the suit. Stating that she had a choice to make, Mo’Nique’s decision to stand against Netflix stems from a desire level the playing field. In a post on Instagram, she said “I could accept what I felt was pay discrimination or I could stand up for those who came before me and those who will come after me. I chose to stand up.”

Citing the offers received by Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Amy Schumer, Mo’Nique alleges that Netflix’s offer of $500,000 was tawdry at best. The lawsuit states, “When the talent was not a Black woman, Netflix offered to pay, and did pay, astronomically more than it pays to Black women like it offered to Mo’Nique.” Seinfeld’s deal with Netflix was allegedly $100 million for two specials and his interview series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Dave Chappelle’s deal for three specials was reportedly worth $60 million. Both Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais allegedly received $40 million for two show deals. Even Amy Schumer commanded $11 million for a single special. Disrespected by her offer, Mo’Nique’s suit accuses the company of perpetuating the drastic wage gap forced upon Black women in America’s workforce.

Not only offended by having her talent undervalued, Mo’Nique’s suit claims the streaming company’s former Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Friedland used the N-word in a meeting. Friedland was reported by several employees for his insensitive remarks for which he refused to apologize. Even after speaking in front of a Black employees, Friedland refused to denounce his behavior. His lack of racial awareness and sensitivity, Friedland was eventually fired by Netflix.

While Mo’Nique has spoken out to confirm that she is suing Netflix, she asks only for support and love at this time, offering no further comments.

Did Wendy Williams Shade Nicki Minaj?

It’s no secret that the Queen of Media and Queen of Rap do not get along. Targeting a certain “soon to be washed-up rapper”, Wendy’s inflammatory comments have drawn the ire of Nicki’s ruthless fanbase, The Barbz.

Tensions between Wendy Williams and Nicki Minaj are at an all-time high following the daytime talk show host’s comments about the rapper’s husband. Wendy drew first blood when she pointed to Kenneth Petty’s violent past. Discussing it on air, Wendy said “I don’t know what he does for a living. I just know that he did time in jail for — he’s a sex offender.” Wendy continued her assessment by stating Nicki is no stranger to such behavior because of her brother’s incarceration before returning to her thoughts on Kenneth. “Well, first-degree manslaughter. Now, he served seven years in prison and he’s also a sex offender. So that means that he…is manslaughter a killer? Okay. So, he’s a killer and a sex offender…Well, Nicki. Congratulations.”

Hearing how critical Wendy Williams has been of her marriage to Kenneth Petty, Nicki Minaj lashed out during an episode of Queen Radio. Hitting back at Williams for her criticism with “It’s not about doing your job.” Nicki says Wendy goes too far. “There are people who report the news and there are people who do it with an evil intent in their heart, viciousness.” Feeling entitled to counter the disrespect, Nicki alluded to Wendy’s failing marriage, saying “And I pray for you because I know you’re hurting and I know you must be sick and humiliated.”

During Nicki’s episode of Queen Radio she continued to air out Wendy’s marital issues with Kevin Hunter. Bringing up his extramarital affair, Nicki targeted what she believed was the source of Wendy’s bitterness. “You’re sat up there being vicious all this time, and paid for that man’s mistress all these years. You paid for her shopping sprees, you paid for her hotels — Bitch, you probably even paid for her GYN bills, you paid to have that baby delivered, ho. How you doin’, stupid?” Seemingly unphased by Nicki’s callout, Wendy had this to say during her show:

“There’s this soon-to-be washed up rapper who can’t keep my name out of it’s mouth. I love it. I sit here like, ‘OK, keep talking. Say some more.'”

“Where is Frank Ocean?” Drake Booed off Camp Flog Gnaw Stage

LA Times

Boo this man! Boooo! Drake thought a surprise appearance at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival would go better than this. The Canadian rapper was booed off the stage after attempting to surprise fans by performing before Frank Ocean’s set.

Drake’s surprise appearance at Camp Flog Gnaw was cut short after he was interrupted by boos. The rapper, who arranged the surprise with Tyler The Creator’s approval, stopped in the middle of “Wu-Tang Forever” to gauge the crowd. Saying, “I’m up here for you tonight. If you want to keep going, I will keep going.” Drake asked “What’s up?” Unfortunately, during the pause, some members of the crowd began booing loudly. Bowing out gracefully, Drake said “It’s been love.” and exited stage left. Hoping Frank Ocean would take the stage soon after, fans were met with further disappointment — he refused to perform.

After waiting nearly 15 minutes for Frank Ocean’s performance to begin, fans came to the realization that he wouldn’t take the stage. Presumably punishing the audience for causing Drake to end his set 20 minutes early, fans are agreeing with Frank Ocean’s decisions. One Twitter user commented “Frank not performing is exactly what a crowd who would boo Drake deserves.” Another user echoed their sentiments, saying “Drake, I’m sorry, bro. I’m so sorry. They didn’t deserve you.”

Although Frank Ocean has yet to release a statement, rumors are swirling that Drake was called in to replace the rapper altogether. Frank Ocean allegedly canceled his scheduled appearance at Camp Flog Gnaw, but there is no indication he stepped down on any of his official social media profiles. However, his name was missing from the lineup of the 2-day festival.

With ticket prices ranging from $270 to $1045, fans are sharing their mixed feelings. Some are disappointed they sold their passes and lost the chance to see Drake, others are furious they held on to their tickets and didn’t get to see Frank Ocean.
