“I Don’t Cheat To Win I Rather Lose”, Serena Speaks Out Against US Open Penalities

Yesterday was the final match in the tennis U.S. Open between the Queen of Grand Slams, Serena Williams, and her competitor Naomi Osaka. I’m sure people we’re expecting a fair match between these two black women however the umpire who was watching over the game had something else in mind.

Naomi was giddy to be playing against her Idol Serena in the finals on Saturday as shown with this message to her in a interview where she said, “I Love You.”

Everything was going well during the final match until the umpire issued the first penalty against Serena. Carlos Ramos, the umpire that started the drama, issued Serena a penalty because of what seems like Serena’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, was coaching her while he was moving his hands.

Ramos issued the first penalty which immediately infuriated Serena who said to him, “You owe Me an Apology. I have never cheated in my life, I have a daughter for what’s and I stand what’s right for her.”

Here’s more footage of Serena talking to Ramos about how he misinterpreted her coach’s hand gesture as coach Serena to do certain plays against Osaka but he seems to be unfazed from his earlier decision.

Serena tried to explain to the umpire how that she wasn’t cheating and why she didn’t deserve the penalty she was given but Ramos didn’t see the need to remove it from that portion of the match.

Ramos gave Serena her second penalty after she broke her racket on the court out of frustration.

Serena’s final penalty came after Serena was penalized for arguing with the umpire for his previous penalties that she was issued for earlier as a “code violation”.

Serena accused Ramos of stealing a point from her because of the previous penalties she was given which prevented her from scoring a point. It escalated to the point where Serena was talking with the referee about the umpire choice to give her a point was sexist because the men have done much worse than her and often aren’t penalized.

In her argument she said, “There are men out her who do a lot worse than me. But Because I’m a woman you’re going to take this away from me. That is Not Right.”

The finals ended with Naomi Osaka being the first Haitian-Japenese woman to win the US Open and also being the youngest at 20 years old winning the Grand Slam title.

During the Award Ceremony the crowd was booing in disappointment that Serena did not obtain her 24th Grand Slam title 1 year after giving birth to her daughter. However she stopped them from their jeers and wanted them to appreciate Osaka winning her title. Although you could tell from her eyes and facial expressions that she was still shaken up from what happened earlier in the match.

Here’s what Serena had to say after the award Serena was finished in a interview with reporters.

On twitter there were tweets calling out the sexism, misogynoir, and racism that was being perpetrated from some news companies that called Serena’s passionate out burst a meltdown in their news headlines.

Tennis legend Billie Jean King commented on the events that happened calling for the double standards that women have to endure that men usually don’t have to think about.

Billie Jean King has written a in depth analysis piece on her perspective of the match and the double standards and abuse of power that took place during the match.

The drama doesn’t end there because Serena’s outburst with the umpire will cost her a $17,000 fine. There’s a lot of conversations that can be said from what happened yesterday from the Grand Slam Finals but I will finish it off with this.

Congratulations to Naomi Osaka for her 1st Grand Slam victory. And as for Serena Queen of the Grand Slams, Slayer of Sexism, Misogynoir, and Racism you’ll get your chance at a 24th Grand Slam soon.

Frank Ocean Clarifies Cease & Desist on Travis Scott “It Wasn’t about the Music it was about the LGBT Community”

Travis Scott’s “Astroworld” has caused its fair share of controversy, more-so the one-sided beef with Nicki Minaj. This past week the “Sicko Mode” rapper had to deal with a cease and desist letter from the hands of Frank Ocean. Rumors started swirling that the “Pyramids” singer didn’t like the effects that Scott added to his vocals on “Carousel.” Frank Ocean took to Tumblr to clear up the rumors and give his side of the situation. Ocean says,

“I think the song sounds cool, I did it in like 20 minutes and the mix sounds the way Travis wanted it to sound for his record. I also approved it before it came out so the cease and desist wasn’t about 🔊 it was about 🏳️‍🌈. Me and Travis resolved it amongst ourselves weeks ago. 💖”

The pride flag emoji symbolizes how transgender, Amanda Lepore, was removed from Scott’s album cover. Now that the issue was resolved between the two musicians, Scott posted his own response to the situation, via Instagram.

It’s great to see that the two settled their issues outside of the courtroom. Shoutout to Frank for fighting for LGBT rights and now standing down. Let’s hope the two will continue to make great music together.

Get the Strap: Wanda Smith’s Husband Apparently DID NOT Pull a Gun out on Katt Williams

mm

Published

Last Friday a clip of Katt Williams roasting Atlanta’s V103 radio host, Wanda Smith, went viral. While there was obvious tension during the interview no one was expecting it to take the turn that it did. According to 11 Alive“Katt Williams told police that Wanda Smith’s husband, Lamorris Sellers, pulled a gun on him and pointed it in his face outside the Atlanta Comedy Theater.” On September 15th at around 9:30 p.m, Katt Williams said that he and Wanda Smith were arguing about the interview that was conducted the previous day. During the argument that’s when Smith’s husband, Lamorris Sellers, pulled out a gun on Katt.

Now Sellers recalls the event differently. He says that Katt was the aggressor in the verbal altercation and that he indicated that he wanted to fight. As Sellers chased him down he admits that he had a gun but his gun fell out of his waistband. He denies pointing his gun at anyone.

The Gwinnett County Police Department has reviewed the footage from that night and unfortunately where there were standing was not under surveillance.

The Atlanta Comedy Theater wants to clear their name in the altercation and released this statement:

“There is a lot of speculation and misinformation on the Internet about the incident with Katt Williams and Wanda Smith’s husband. The verbal altercation took place outside in the parking lot and NOT inside the Atlanta Comedy Theater. One of our security guards witnessed the incident as well as helped quickly de-escalate the situation, and reported he saw NO gun at anytime. We are an upscale comedy club and employ in-house security as well as off-duty officers at every show. We admire and respect both Wanda Smith and Katt Williams for their work in the standup comedy field and this is just an unfortunate incident with two clashing personalities. It is our understanding Mr. Williams stated he did not want to press charges so all the talk seems to be much ado about nothing.”

What do y’all think? Should Katt get the strap or is Wanda bugging? Let us know in the comments below.
